Props

Mise-en-scene is everything in the scene and most shots include more props than anything else. It can often seem like props are there just to fill up the shot but each and every prop has been carefully thought about by the director and placed in the shot. Props can do many things such as help the audience to understand a character better or they can foreshadow an event to happen later in the film.
Photo Frame

One of the main items used in our production was the photo frame. It is the pinnacle of the story line, it is where the Ghost comes from and where she takes her victims when she captures them. We chose to use an old wooden photo frame which connotes how long the house has been haunted as well as it contrasting with the rest of the house which has a modern look so it will stand out and it will be obvious to the audience that it is an important item within the movie.

Blanket
The blanket in our piece is black and white. We chose this colours as it is a binary opposition and black and white can connote Good vs Evil. We studied Levi Strauss and his theory of binary oppositions are prevalent in most horror films and we also wanted to include this in our production.

Bag
Adam Black has his bag on him throughout most of the trailer as he has just moved to his new house. It helps to communicate his age to the audience as an adolescent male. The colour of the bag, purple, connotes supernatural energy as it is one of the rarest colours to find in nature. So rare that going back to our pre-historic existence, our ancestors probably never saw a purple fruit, flower, bird, fish or any living thing. This rarity lead it to connoting supernatural things in today’s world and we chose this colour to suggest what Adam Black is about the experience.
